BULA, re-envisioned

BULA has evolved over the past 9 years, so we thought our logo should do the same. We are proud to present our brand new image, thoughtfully created by Ugandan artist and visionary, Hellen Nabukenya.

Don’t worry – we may look a little different, but our core values remain the same.

We still believe the privacy of the child comes first. We continue to make ethical decisions alongside our Ugandan colleagues because, to us, process matters as much as outcomes. And we remain committed to the well-being and empowerment of children and their communities.

But, what does this image mean to us? As BULA’s Head Social Worker Evelyne Nantenza puts it, “This image shows the joy and laughter BULA has brought to many young lives.” We could not agree more with this sentiment. To take it a step further, this image embodies the incredible resilience and joy we see in the Ugandan youth we serve.

As BULA continues to be led by its Ugandan counterparts and driven by the bright youth of Uganda, this image signifies a turning point in our organization’s mission. While we remain committed to supporting the education of vulnerable children in Uganda, we are also confronting a key aspect of that vulnerability – the institutionalization of orphaned and vulnerable children.

BULA has shifted into child protection by seeking alternative care solutions for children living in orphanages and providing support services to those who have left them.  By addressing this major source of vulnerability in tandem with supporting their education, BULA has found that young people are left in greater control of their own future – They are empowered.
