BULA Children's Home
BULA supports the education of the 27
children
residing at BULA Children's Home.
BULA Children's Home is an officially registered Ugandan NGO that
aims to promote childhood development by focusing on children's rights,
educational opportunities, and sensitivity to each child's unique
background.
The Home cares for 27 orphaned and vulnerable childr
en, ranging in ages from 9 to 18
years old. The Home,
located in Kampala, was established in early 2009 to alleviate the
conditions and hardships the children endured at their prior setting.
The NGO is run by a trio of directors and is headed by Stephen Luutu. The directors have been with these children during the formative years of their lives and are responsible for achieving the safe and secure environment in which they now reside. Under their initiative and determination to safeguard the children from abuse and neglect, the transfer was made. BULA, through the leadserhip and presence of Melissa and Andie, served as advisors and sources of support for the Directors and the children during these difficult months.
Since their removal from their prior locale, the children are
flourishing in their new environment. The home first aims to support
these children in their basic needs and future success and additionally
strives to further promote their well being through counseling and
support. Much of this rehabilitation involves reconnecting the
children with remaining family ties and their former homes. We believe
these ties are essential to developing the children to their fullest
potential.
The children at the home are those for whom BULA was in fact named
and founded in 2007. We are forever invested in their safety and
bright futures. It is they who created the safe, happy,
worry-free place we call BULA and it is they who will always remain
there. The children self named their new home: BULA Children's
Home, giving us a tremendous sense of pride in our convictions and our
work. They are the organization's source of inspiration.
