BULA Newsletter - April 30, 2010
Hello!
Another month passes by quickly and its time for an update from us!
We are excited very excited here as we are currently planning many fun events for the coming months. You should have received notice of the From Blue Point to BULA 5K Run/Walk on May 22nd and if you have not please visit: www.2010bula5k.eventbrite.com for all the details. Just as in the past years, it is bound to be a great day! We are looking forward to seeing many of your faces there.
I'd like to announce our next event to be held at Oysterman's on Foster Avenue in Sayville, NY (http://oystermansrestaurant.com/). Howie Seal and The Neighborhood Band will be performing at Oysterman's on the evening of Saturday, June 12th. There will be a cover donation of $10 for the night. Spread the word and come out for a great evening!
As in the past, many are taking the initiative to throw their own events for BULA. This has always been inspiring to us and is a driving force for our past successes. We hope this continues to grow. If you are interested in throwing a small or large gathering in order to support the work of BULA, please let us know. One group is holding a Second Annual Fundraising event and designating a significant portion of their proceeds to BULA. This group is the impressive Musical Honor Society, Tri-M, at Bayport-Blue Point High School. They will be putting on a great display of talent for the benefit of causes such as our own as well as others. We truly appreciate their efforts!
In Uganda, students are on their first school break of the year. Uganda's school year begins in early February and operates in 3 terms. The first term has just ended which is followed by a 3-week long break. This is much needed as the school days are long and rigorous. Students in the higher levels of schooling have been attending school 6 days per week. Even during this break, many children will continue to attend school part time to keep up on their studies. We applaud their hard work and hope that they enjoy their period of rest from school.
At BULA Children's Home, volunteers have come through devoting the time that they could to offer their assistance. Currently, a volunteer is working hard with the Directors to improve accounting strategies and administrative tasks with their limited resources and very busy schedule. We greatly appreciate his work!
Andie is working hard in her new position in Uganda and gaining tremendous experience. On top of this, she continues to be a force for BULA, keeping up with the schools and the Children's Home, while helping to plan new initiatives.
We look forward to seeing you at the events! Thanks for all of your support!
Best,
Melissa Fricke
